5 Tips for Making The Most of Large Art Markets
Shopping large art markets can get overwhelming at times! How do you make sure you see every beautiful piece of local handmade art available, and, once you see everything, how do you make sure to return to those Artists booths whose work you connected with the most? Here are some helpful tips for navigating these larger art market events:
I like to survey the entire art market to get an idea of all the local handmade art that is available before I commit to one booth or purchase. I don’t want to miss meeting a new favorite Artist! That being said, if you see something you love, claim it as yours! If it’s a one-of-a-kind piece, it may not be there once you come back to that art booth.
You can use the printed art market event map with the full list of vendors (available at the entrance to larger art markets) to your advantage. Mark off the Makers or art booths you want to return to, so you can easilly find your favorite Artists again!
Using the event directory (at large events especially), you can get an idea of what kind of work you might expect to see on the day. Although, it’s important to know: a lot of vendors bring work to these big events that is not listed on their websites. That means, you can only find those pieces and products in-person!
Even if you’re not planning on finding anything in particular, it helps to come prepared. Stow your new finds in your market bag and browse the different booths with ease!
The atmosphere at art markets is usually lively and fun. Music plays, and everyone enjoys themselves! Bring a friend, date, or family member and treat the day as a chance to reconnect, explore, and feel inspired!
Happy Shopping!
