September Reset | Adventure Art Club
30 Sketches in 30 Days | One Adventure Every Day | Goal: To be present and mindful through active rest.
Introducing a new series on Alpine Line Art for the month of September: Adventure Art Club! If you’re anything like me, then you may find it difficult to actually rest or reset. I’ve been in the swing of Summer markets every Summer for the last 5 years. I work almost every event alone - this includes travel, set-up, 12 hour days with no meaningful breaks, take-down, and accommodations that often mean half-sleeping in my car. I’m exhausted! This year, I decided that since I don’t have events planned in September, I would take this month off to rest and recharge before the holiday season begins. Of course, as soon as I made that decision, my brain started fighting me…
(Cue feelings of fear, scarcity, and not enoughness with the overall message of “I don’t have TIME to rest!!”)
To combat those feelings, I’ve decided to add some loose structure to my September reset, and I’m calling it “Adventure Art Club!” For the next 30 days, each day, I am taking myself on a little adventure (which I’m interpreting quite loosely). Some of these adventures will be indoors (probably), but most will be in nature, where I feel most at peace and most alive. I’m choosing to create one 4”x6” sketch during each adventure as a way of slowing down and noticing for a brief time, no matter where I am, and to record the adventure. At the end of the month, I hope to have 30 small tokens of sights and experiences to offer. Follow along here to see daily sketches and stories I find along the trail, full retellings, which will be sent out via email as well. (Join my newsletter if you want to receive these stories in your inbox!)
I will be publishing adventure missives a day or two after the fact. Why?
Because I would like to push back on the sense of urgency that seems to have invaded every facet of our lives lately.
Aaaand if you’re thinking this adventure sounds like a lot of work, I might be inclined to agree with you. I would argue, though, that active meditation can be mindful too. Adventure means what we say it means. And loose structure can shoo away pesky insecurities that get in the way when people like me have open days to fill with worry. With that said, and if you have the space right now, I’m inviting you to join me for Adventure Art Club for the month of September, in whatever way works for you, whether that be joining the challenge for 30 art pieces in 30 days, intending to weave in more rest in your life this month, or joining me on a local adventure!
More to follow. =)
