If you’ve travelled along the Montana highway US-93 heading North toward Flathead Lake, you know there’s a moment when the Mission Mountains suddenly appear, as if by magic, around a bend in the highway. Where once there were a series of nondescript coniferous trees, all-at-once you are greeted by the majestic Mission Mountains rising imposingly above you.
The Mission Mountains have a magic all their own, made doubly apparent in the way they rise so imperiously from the almost perfectly flat valley floor below. I don’t think the nature of these particular mountains can be captured in a single image, but this drawing represents an attempt at paying tribute to their power.
