"The Weight We Carry" | Original Drawing
“The Weight We Carry” is a 16x20 original black ink drawing on white canvas featuring a female ice climber making their way up a snowy embankment while steep cliff faces and boulders surround her. This drawing seems lit with a bright afternoon light causing deep shadows from the cliff and the figure herself. She seems determined and stoic as she makes her way up the mountain with a heavy pack, never looking up from the task at hand.
When I created this piece, I thought of the great weight we all carry through life. Some of that weight is our own, picked up through experiences over decades. Some is given to us by our upbringing, circumstance, gendered expectations, or inherited trauma. Each of us learns to carry that weight with strength and determination, putting one foot in front of the other, resolute in our determination to keep climbing. We may not always know what lies over the crest of the mountain ridge, but we know the view from the top will be worth the effort.
“The Weight We Carry” arrives unframed and ready to hang as is or in the frame of your choosing.
